Rent Increase Freeze is Extended to August 2021

It’s been confirmed: The rent INCREASE freeze will be extended through December 2020 to July 2021.

Previously issued rent increases are cancelled, not delayed. If the tenant pays the increased amount, this does not constitute an agreement to pay the increase going forward.

This prohibition on rent increases is done under the authority of the COVID-19 Related Measures Act and cancels any rent increases notices effective between April 1, 2020, and July 10, 2021.

We interpret this to mean that the next rent increase can be effective August 1, 2021 at 1.4%.
