You can walk the majestic streets of Rockland and forget where you are. This elegant and mostly residential neighbourhood now includes a mix of single-family homes, townhouses and apartments converted from old mansions, most with large lots and leafy green trees galore. It’s an established area with a mix of professionals, families and garden-lovers.
Many of the original homes here were designed by well-known architects such as Samuel Maclure and were commissioned by wealthy bankers and entrepreneurs of the day. It is also the home of Craigdarroch Castle, Government House and the Victoria Art Gallery.
This historic neighbourhood is located just east of Downtown and is walkable to Fairfield, Cook St Village and the ocean. It’s more than worth it to stroll or bike through Rockland’s winding streets on a sunny afternoon. You’ll certainly enjoy the solitude of the peaceful side streets and sparse traffic, where you’re close to everything but feel a million miles away.
