A diverse community only a few minutes from Downtown, Esquimalt has a bit of a small-town feel and a strong sense of community. In recent years there have been some newer condo developments spread throughout the area but much of it is filled with single-family homes on nice lots. On some quiet no-thru streets near the water you’ll find clusters of newer homes built in the last 10 years, with Saxe Point being a popular and desirable area with beautiful, larger homes near the water.
The Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt dominates the eastern end, contributing as the community’s largest employer. The Esquimalt Recreation Centre and Archie Browning Sports Centre are popular with families; housing aquatic and wellness/fitness centres and an ice rink. Outdoors, you can stroll along West Bay Marina and West Bay Walkway, a boardwalk that runs directly into Downtown. Buyers are constantly renovating older homes as the price point can be attractive for young families or first-time buyers, and this established area can be a great choice for people of all ages.
