“The Victoria chapter of the Big Brother Big Sister charity provides tremendous value to our community. This small but massively effective organization matches school-aged children with volunteers and facilitates the creation of deep, transformational relationships. The influence of an older adult in the life of a child can have lasting resonance.
I have had the opportunity to volunteer as a mentor for the past 4 years and have witnessed the joy and transformation that arises for both the child and the mentor. Personally, our time together has no underlying agenda other than enjoying each other and finding some fun together, whether that means colouring, making smoothies, slack-lining or playing tag.
The relationships that are formed are about seeing more talent and possibility in the child than they might see in themselves.
Between 2015 – 2016 BBBS served over 442 children through in-school mentoring, group mentoring and teen mentoring. Personally, I am extremely grateful we have the opportunity to support an organization as effective and community-focused as BBBS. This year we were in a position to donate $1,500 towards this community changing programming.”
